Dear All,

Today, I need advice from all experienced people. Actually, I am not satisfied with my job. I am not getting opportunities for further growth or learning. I am not a person who is afraid of hard work. In my current job, I am not receiving appreciation or a path to grow. That is why I need suggestions on whether I should continue with my job or switch to another opportunity.

Thanks

Dear Ms. Monika,

First, speak with your immediate and second-level supervisor about not receiving any new learning or growth opportunities. It is perfectly acceptable for an employee to approach their direct or upper-level supervisor regarding professional growth concerns. Feel free to contact me for further guidance and counseling on how to address your growth needs and negotiate with your boss.

Thank you.

Dear Monika,

Try to understand one thing - you must change your belief first. Look at what you are talking about. It's all those things which you don't want. So, why are you speaking about it? Speak only of those things which you want. One day, you will understand why I was talking like this.

Thank you.

Dear Monika,

This is my point of view: you need to confirm that whatever you are doing falls under what you want. If your responsibilities are not according to your level, then definitely you must consider changing your job. Job satisfaction is very important, and if you are not satisfied with your job, then you need to make a very thoughtful decision.

Dear Monika,

It is not clear for how long you are serving your present company. You know stability matters. However, if you are not getting appreciation or a growth path, you may try the following model:

DEARMAN MODEL

DESCRIBE

Describe the situation when necessary - sometimes it isn't sticking to the facts and no judgmental statements.

"I've been working here for 2 years now and haven't received a raise, even though my performance reviews have always been positive."

EXPRESS

Express feelings/opinions about the situation clearly.

Describe how you feel or what you believe about the situation.

Don't expect the other person to read your mind or know how you feel; give a brief reason for making your request.

"I believe that I deserve a raise."

ASSERT

Assert your wishes.

Ask for what you want.

Say no clearly.

REINFORCE

Reward people who respond positively to you when you ask for something, say no, or express an opinion.

Sometimes it helps to reinforce people before they respond to your question by telling them the positive effects of getting what you want or need.

The basic idea here is that if people do not gain from complying with a request, at least some of the time, they may stop responding in a positive way.

"I will be a lot happier and probably more productive if I get a salary that reflects my value to the company."

"Thanks for being so understanding. I really appreciate it."

STAY MINDFUL

Keep your focus on your objectives in the situation.

Maintain your position.

Don't be distracted onto another topic.

APPEAR CONFIDENT

Confident tone of voice.

Confident physical manner.

Appropriate eye contact.

No stammering, whispering, staring at the floor, etc...

How confident to act in a situation is a judgment call. There is a fine line between appearing arrogant and appearing too apologetic.

NEGOTIATE

Be willing to give to get.

Offer and ask for alternate solutions.

Reduce your request.

Some people have really good skills themselves and keep refusing your legitimate requests or pestering you to do something you don't want to do.

*Use the same "DEARMAN" skills but change the focus to the current interaction.

With best wishes,

Bhardwaj Ramesh

Dear Monica,

I am exactly in the same situation as yours. I decided to quit my current job, so I did the same, but looking back, that's the worst thing I have ever done in my life. Everybody gives importance only when you're on the right path. So just carry on with your job search, which suits your profile, and be in the current job for the time being.

"Don't Give Up: It's A Hurdle, Not A Brick Wall."

My Best Wishes,

Suresh Allu

I think you are in a catch-22 situation. Nowadays, all kinds of wrong practices are being followed by some of the Employers HR club. The moment employers come to know that you are looking for a job outside, they proactively share data about you with the same domain companies stating that "you are an average performer" or "hesitant to take additional responsibility," and so on. This effectively cuts down the prospect of better job opportunities outside and indirectly forces you to stay within your organization.

Dear Monika,

This is the scenario faced by all employees at some point in their lifetime; don't be nervous. I am sure you have to leave this brand and search for new opportunities, but can you assure that the same does not repeat elsewhere? So be stubborn; things will change soon. Good luck.

Hi,

First point is that you should not leave the organization until you get the new job. Secondly, don't wait for appreciation from others, just be self-motivated. I know you would say that it is all theory, but it is true, dear. "We get hurt when we don't get as per our expectations." Don't expect so; whatever you achieve, you will be happy in that. Nobody can assure you that your next company will recognize your job as per your expectations. "It is very difficult to change the world, so change yourself."

I have worked with an MNC (S. Korea) for 12 years, and it was the best workplace to work with (truly speaking). But I joined a small group so that I can utilize my learning for my growth. Now I am very happy. So just believe in yourself and try to ignore negative things around you. Feel free to call if you need to discuss more. Have a nice day.

Dear Ms. Sapra,

Until you get some good opportunity, you can show your best in your current job. And of course, whenever you get the same, you can switch instantly. But be careful, don't take a chance on your career for just a few salary hikes.

Bye, take care.

To Monika Sapra,

If you are really interested, please let us know the nature of your job, your profile, and the kind of work you are good at. Also, let us know which city you are in and if you are willing to be relocated. Giving advice without knowing any background information would be rather vague.

Thanks

Dear Mr. Krishna Dhiman,

With all dues respect, I wish to differ with one of your points in your suggestion

Quote
"It Is Very Difficult to change the World, So change yourself" & "Dont expect so whatever you will achieve you will be happy in that." I am not sure the reference to context, why you had used this quotations.
Unquote

Having said that; I am sure you know that it was a firm determination of a man, call the "Mr. Gandhi whom we now call Mahatma", who did not accept what the world wanted him to do or practice. He followed his own path and history speaks of his determination today. So, if you have decided that you cannot change the world, the wish to change the world is already lost, and ofcourse what you have wished to become will be ganted to you by the almighty i.e. “to change yourself”.

Besides, being happy with oneself is a state of mind. Some are happy with just little and some never happy with enough. As rightly said by one of our expert Mr. Sharad which would like to

Quote
“Who will decide what you deserve?
Look at your own life and analyze.
When you born, you had no degree, no income, no capability even to walk or talk, although you were blessed by good food, clothing, shelter, education and lot more. Is n't it?
Have you ever felt gratitude for such luxuries given to you without any deserving quality and qualification?
Today you are nervous, because you are not getting your wish. Don't you think that there is something wrong in your thinking pattern? I wish you learn to express gratitude for every breath gifted to you.
Remember no master degree will help you to live happy life. It is you who will decide to live happily and will need to learn an art of being happy in every situation. I wish you learn to help yourself.
You can do anything and everything, provided you change your mindset and approach to the situation. I wish you learn the way of life, which is full with struggle and simultaneously most beautiful too. Enjoy the life. Here you have nothing to loose or gain, as you came bare handed and will go bare handed.
His Blessings;
Sharad Shah

Dear Bhardwaj,

It was a very interesting article. I'm not in a situation of job dissatisfaction; however, it has been very helpful to implement this model in my day-to-day interaction with colleagues.

Hi Monika,

Definitely, you can switch the job if you are unsatisfied. However, these are highly competitive days. Even those who are career-oriented may join a company of lower worth where they lack learning support and growth prospects. In such situations, they should follow the steps below to succeed:

- Should perform 100% of job responsibilities without seeking recognition, as people are recognized for being more productive than allocated.

- Nowadays, self-learning is crucial. Therefore, instead of waiting for others to teach us, we should proactively seek to learn. After completing our daily tasks, we should explore related subject matters, observe, study, self-learn, and engage in practical activities whenever possible. This approach helps in acquiring new knowledge and enhances our resume by broadening our 'Areas of exposure.'

- Since we are familiar with the end-to-end process of our job in the organization, we should think innovatively, identify cost-cutting measures, discover time-saving methods to achieve expected results, and present these suggestions to management in writing, supported by valid analysis and merits and demerits. Such initiatives are likely to be appreciated and could potentially lead to growth opportunities.

- Analyze job market requirements by studying job descriptions and focus on learning the necessary skills. Enhance your knowledge by seeking guidance from seniors within and outside the organization to sharpen your skills.

After following these steps, consider shifting to a new organization to avoid encountering similar issues.

Good luck, Monika.
