How Can I Measure Employee Satisfaction Without a Formal Survey? Seeking Advice from Experienced Peers

Dear Seniors,

As of today, we do not have an Employee Satisfaction Survey in our company. However, my Key Result Areas (KRAs) suggest that 20% of my job should be maintaining employee satisfaction at 85%.

In order to maintain employee satisfaction, I am engaging in various activities within the unit. However, I do not have a method to measure or assess the same. Kindly provide me with a format, form, or survey to measure employee satisfaction.

I appreciate your initiative in seeking solutions. The reality is that even after conducting a survey, it may not translate into actionable changes on the ground. Often, information from surveys ends up in books and eventually gets discarded.

However, my advice is to still conduct the survey. It can make your loyal and hardworking employees feel valued knowing that someone is taking the time to understand their challenges.

Be cautious of individuals in HR who show little interest in taking action. Move forward confidently, as you will receive full support from those who diligently fulfill their responsibilities.

1. You should have sought clarification from your direct superior for your KRA and targets when they were assigned to you.

2. Employee Satisfaction Surveys are usually HR-driven company-wide initiatives. If you are not in HR, you may want to collaborate with HR to design and conduct one accordingly.

3. A word of caution: if the organization is not ready or willing to change, please refrain from conducting such a survey. Heightened employee expectations without corresponding changes can erode trust and confidence in management and the organization for future surveys.

4. When an organization designates Employee Satisfaction Index as a corporate KPI, a formal survey must be conducted. The initial survey establishes a baseline for improvement. For instance, progressing from the current 70% to the target of 85% after a year of initiatives.

5. In your situation, initiating this first survey is crucial. The survey results serve as your roadmap for targeted changes and initiatives that enhance satisfaction levels, meeting employee expectations effectively.
