You are absolutely right about the way certain trends are forming. I would go a step further that even in the case of someone being asked to leave, there are a lot of challenges to deal with. Not only the individual, but even the family of such individuals suffer as in ripple theory.
That's why CiteHR is a great platform to discuss, and though we all may hardly meet, we still connect. Yeah! for CiteHR...
You have mentioned human psychology. Actually, if the right person is there for the job or vice versa, if every person takes up the right job, everyone will achieve a lot. Yeah, Together Everyone Achieves More!
This calls for awareness at two levels:
1. At the individual's level: Instead of simply competing, an individual should take charge and control of what is one's talent, capability, and how to get the best out of oneself. This calls for a lot of awareness and self-understanding.
2. At the organization's level: Instead of trying to fit a person or proclaim one unfit, each organization should venture to find out what skill sets a particular job requires. Now at this juncture, conversations, if possible, would go like this...
Comment: It is very challenging!
Me: I agree.
Comment: Who has time, Sujatha?
Me: I agree.
Comment: And money? We do not have time, money, or manpower to get into such time-consuming procedures...
Me: I agree. The decision-makers are really suffering with competitive salaries and even more competitive market scenarios. At the same time, while conducting stress management programs, I see individuals breaking down. Parents meet parents and they are stressed, ask kids and kids are stressed. This calls for a lot of awareness at the organizational level.
Many of us here are able to put up our points, and that's why I have chosen to write this much. I guess this does call for a lot of thinking with the six hats and multiple roles every individual plays (pun intended). Certain people have used and abused human psychology and manipulated people and situations. Probably they were unaware of the impact of their actions or decisions in the larger picture. Also, it is utopian to think that everywhere there is and will be harmony.
Friends, human psychology, online assessment tools, psychometric tests are all very good; however, the good will come if one helps an individual get the right job. The point I am making here is every individual has some very significant talents, and every job requires some significant skill set. Once identified and sorted, many of the issues will be settled.
These are changing times for us, especially in the BRIC countries where the economies are emerging. During this change, if we brace ourselves gracefully, the time spent will be meaningful and worth the while.
Have a nice day!
Regards,
Sujatha
