Dear Cite HR Members,

I work as the Head of the HR Organization Effectiveness section, and I would like to know if KPIs or KRAs are used in appraising employees. How can I use them to appraise newcomers, or are they not applicable in the latter case?

Thanks,
Hossam Nabil

Dear Mr. Hossam,

Your query is well defined in the right direction. Many employers are deceived in selecting candidates because they lack the tools to identify the required competencies in available candidates. To avoid this problem, you should design position and level-wise competency mapping to be conducted during the interview, known as competency-based interviews. Your system should be well-defined and very scientific to yield proper results.

Hi,

Yes, KRA and KPI's are used in appraising employees. However, make sure that you prepare the KRAs before hiring a person. This helps in attracting suitable candidates and hiring the best fit for the role. During the induction process, the KRAs should be explained to the employee by the head of the department or the manager.

Ensure that the employee is aware that these KRAs will serve as the basis for performance evaluations during salary increments.

Thanks,
Jasmine

Dear Mr. Hossam,

KRA and KPI are the major fundamentals of the appraisal tool in any PMS system. In fact, the fulfillment of KPIs is the basic indicator of performance level. Although lower performance may be an outcome of many influencing factors, for details, you may refer to 'Performance Management and Appraisal Systems' by T V Rao.

A new joiner must be handed over and explained the JD and KRA/KPI to make the organization's expectations clear to them.

Hope I could explain my point. For further clarifications, you are most welcome to write to me.

Please, I need someone to provide me with any information they have compiled on competency-based interviews. Additionally, I will require assistance from friends and colleagues in obtaining articles on the OPQ and other aptitude tests.

Thank you.
