Exploring Higher Studies and Career Development in Human Resources

Hi there,

I wanted to know what all can we do when I am done with my MBA in HR. I read some posts and found these:
1) PhD or MPhil
2) Specialization
3) Some small courses

But I am not able to get names of good colleges or names in proper. Like, what is the exact name of the college that can give me a degree in Strategic HRM or college names with programs and all. Please help.

First of all, I would like to know why you chose HR. This is not meant to offend you, but understanding your motivation can help you define your purpose or objective for pursuing an MBA.

In my opinion, I recommend working in a job after completing your MBA. Gain at least 2 years of experience in the HR field to better understand where your interests and strengths lie within HR. After this hands-on experience, you can decide if pursuing a certification course or a PhD-level specialization in HR is the right path for you.

Many aim of HR MBA is to get into HR field, specifically for things other than only recruitment, like post M&A work, T&D, development sections in OB, etc. So I wanted to know what courses are offered as an option after MBA. MBA is getting increasingly tighter in terms of the number of MBAs coming out; a lot of them are there. I think when we, as a nation, will grow, HR is going to be the most important one. So it's better to be better qualified.

You can take a distance learning program from the National Society for Training & Development in New Delhi. They provide comprehensive training and certification, which are well recognized in the Indian job market.

Also, there are a couple of capsule courses being organized by various private training consultants.

And finally, the best way to start, know, and learn real HR is to take up a job and do recruitment. If you are lucky, you might get a role in the general HR function, where you would gain exposure to other areas of HR besides recruitment.

HR is a very dynamic and evolving field. What we have in India is just the beginning. So, as we move forward, as HR professionals, we need to give Indian HR a global face and evolve it to match world standards.

One more thing you could do is professionalize by taking exams from a recognized HR professional body, perhaps national or international. Afterwards, you need to garner robust practical experience, after which you can use your valued experience for private practice as a consultant. This is the level I wish to see you at.
