How to Handle a Discrepancy in Employment Dates When Your Old Company Won't Correct It?

krishna_kk1
Hi,

I was relieved from a company (IT) on June 3rd, 2005, and joined a new organization on June 6th, 2005. However, it was only a few days ago that I noticed my old company had issued an experience letter stating that my last day was June 7th, 2005, creating a discrepancy of 2 days between my date of relieving and my start date at the new company.

Upon contacting my previous company, they are unwilling to rectify the error. They insist that all my relieving formalities were completed based on the date specified in the letter (June 7th).

I feel helpless and unsure of what to do in this situation. Is there a way to resolve this issue? What could be the implications of such an error in the future?

Thank you.

Hey Krishna,

Even I am in the very same situation right now. I am going to join a new company, but I don't know what the consequences will be. What happened to you? Please help.

Do you have any of the relieving documents and handover forms that mention the date on which they were signed off? It's difficult for the company to change a date once the letter has been issued just because it's updated in their HRMS/HRIS. However, their error will impact your career. Hence, collect whatever proof you have of being relieved and write to the highest authority in the firm. Write to your CHRO to issue an additional letter mentioning the error. That should help. If they don't, use the forms as proof to support the error they made.

Wish you all the best!

Thanks (Cite Contribution).

I tried getting my dates changed by asking HR personnel, but I got the reply that it can't be done now. It's written in the relieving letter that I submitted my resignation on 29th Feb 2012. However, the date of relieving is 23rd March 2012. Would that suffice as proof? I did not have any notice period.

Waiting for your reply.
