As a student, I have conducted mini-research on the changing roles of HR professionals, and I have identified the top ones that everyone talks about to be:

1. Performance Consultant
2. Change Consultant
3. Designer/Developer of PMS (Performance Management Systems)
4. Business Strategic Partner
5. Leadership Developer within an organization
6. Staffing Expert
7. HR Reengineers
8. Trainer
9. HR Information Systems Administrator

You are correct, the HR function has gone through a transformation. From pure administrative roles, HR professionals have specialized into various areas. Some additional roles I can think of are:

1) Talent Managers: responsible for locating, hiring, managing, and retaining resources.
2) Compensation Analysts: responsible for designing compensation and reward programs.
3) Benefit Specialists: responsible for managing benefit packages such as Medical Insurance, 401k or savings plans, retirement benefits, disability (short/long term), paid time off, etc.
