I find your first warning itself is so ominous, and there is no second chance for the employee to explain. After all, HR means Human Resources and not Human Destruction. Of course, I agree that in cases of perennial absence or frequent absence without notice, action should be taken. However, not at the first instance... as you then lose your credibility. Many HR managers act like Hitler... but why???

I agree with wencat. This warning letter can be used for giving a second or third warning but not for the first time. I personally believe and have experienced that if you genuinely take an interest in knowing the cause of absenteeism, there is no need for such a memo. However, I know it is only possible in small organizations. I'm working in the retail industry and that's evident from everyone in detail.
