Curious About Indian Labor Laws: How Do They Tackle Equal Employment and Discrimination?

Nishanair
Hi,

I am in the US and currently taking a course in HR laws. In the US, there are various employment laws such as EEO and Affirmative Action. I am interested in understanding how Indian labor laws address issues related to equal employment and disability discrimination. Are there specific acts in India that cater to equal employment?

Additionally, I would like to learn about how companies, particularly private limited companies, manage concerns like equal employment, harassment, and disability discrimination.

Many thanks,
Nisha

Hi Nisha,

I think you are from Kerala. Despite being Indian, you are asking such questions. You should know Indian culture.

Anyway, in India, there are no such laws except "The Equal Remuneration Act, 1973" (for women) and "The Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, 1959."

In the political game is RESERVATION. Through this, the country is trying to give equal opportunities to all backward sections.

Thanks,
Sidheshwar
