Hi,
This is a beautiful activity to start your class on time management.
Material required:
- One small glass jar
- A little sand
- Some small pebbles
- Some larger stones
- A glass of water
Activity process:
1. Ask for a volunteer.
2. Ask the class about the bottle, whether it's empty or not.
3. Then ask the volunteer to put the water and then the sand in it.
4. Then ask the student to put the pebbles.
5. Then ask the student to put the stones.
All of this will not fit in the jar.
Then give the class the analogy:
This is an analogy of poor time management. If you had put the rocks in first, then the pebbles, then the sand, all three would have fit. This is much like time management, in that by completing your biggest tasks first, you leave room to complete your medium tasks, then your smaller ones. By completing your smallest tasks first, you spend so much time on them that you leave yourself unable to complete either medium or large tasks satisfactorily.
Hope this helps you kickstart your class.
