Hi friends, this is Amit working in an Asset Management Company in Bokaro and also pursuing an MBA. I need a description of industrial relations and its evolution in India.

---

Industrial relations refer to the relationship between employers and employees in the workplace. It encompasses various aspects such as collective bargaining, dispute resolution, and employee participation in decision-making processes. In India, industrial relations have evolved significantly over the years, influenced by changes in labor laws, economic reforms, and societal expectations. The history of industrial relations in India dates back to the pre-independence era when labor movements began to address the working conditions and rights of employees. Post-independence, the government played a dominant role in regulating industrial relations through legislation such as the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, and the Trade Unions Act, 1926. In recent years, there has been a shift towards promoting greater flexibility and cooperation between employers and employees to enhance productivity and competitiveness in the global economy. Understanding the evolution of industrial relations in India is crucial for creating harmonious and productive work environments in organizations.

Please search in the Labour and Employees forum or Industrial Relations forum available on this site itself. There are plenty of presentations available. For your ready reference, I attach herewith a PowerPoint presentation which is about Labour Laws in India. This may not be academically centered but may be useful when you become employed, especially in the HR department.

Dear Mr. Madhu,

I must congratulate you on your effort in compiling the labor laws in such an exhaustive manner. In your PPT slide 117 regarding retrenchment, you have stated that establishments employing more than 50 employees shall issue notice 3 months in advance. I believe it is 100. Kindly verify, and if it is indeed 50, please provide the amendment orders.

Love and regards,
