Setting Up HR: How Do You Handle Confirmation and Appraisal After Probation?

Hi,

I am just setting up the HR system in my company. Can anybody help with queries on confirmation and appraisal?

1. Suppose a person is completing his probation period in the month of March '08. What activities should be involved with the HR department? Should a confirmation letter be given to him? Or should a salary raise be considered as well? Do we need to fill out any appraisal forms for these activities?

2. If a person is confirmed in the month of March '08, when would his appraisal be due? In the next six months or one year?

Vandana,

As per our company policy, if someone is joining post-March and our probation period is 3 months, we give a raise after the review if he is exceptionally good. However, if it's a 6-month probation, then it occurs at year-end. Also, the percentage of the raise depends on various factors.
