New HR Task: How Do I Create an Effective Leave Policy for a Small ITES Company?

Hi all HR professionals. I am Shashank Kumar, a new member of this team. I completed my MBA (HR) as well as Masters of Labor Laws and Labor Welfare. I joined recently and to my surprise, my CEO asked me to design the leave policy with complete freedom. Mine is a small ITES company. Can anyone help me in designing the leave policy? You can share the process followed in your company or explain the procedure of calculating the leave.

I hope it will be a great experience being a member of a forum where there are only HR professionals.

One clarification on why we can keep leaves for the Calendar Year rather than the Financial Year... any significance or major impact??

The leave policy can be based on the following contents:

1) Objective
2) Scope - CL, SL, PL
3) Table of entitlement - Type of leave, Quantum of leave, Leave accumulation, eligibility
4) EL leave bank - pay band wise
5) CL leave bank - pay band wise
6) SL leave bank - pay band wise
7) Maternity leave - 12 weeks
8) Any other additional features as per your company culture
9) Leave Application form
