Planning a Company Anniversary Event: Ideas for Games and Group Activities?

Amith R Murthy
Dear Friends,

In our company, we are planning to have a cultural event on the eve of the anniversary of our company. Please provide me with some ideas on how we can incorporate small games to make the event more colorful. Additionally, I would appreciate any suggestions for a drama or any other group event that could be organized.

Friends, please reply with your ideas. I am eagerly awaiting your input.

Thanks in Advance,
Amith R.

First of all, congrats, dear.

You can play games like musical chairs, rope pulling, and three-legged race. For groups, you can have a group song competition because dramas are sometimes boring, but everyone can enjoy music. Let me know if this helps you.

Hi Friend,

I do agree with you; employees are planning for that, but I need a concept for one particular event. The rest they have planned. I want to conduct some small games in between to make it colorful. Can you share with me some ideas if you have come across such a thing?

Hi Archana,

Thank you for your suggestion. Our team has planned for songs and a few other activities. Could you please share your thoughts on conducting some TV shows in a more humorous manner? I am looking for ideas that are light-hearted and entertaining, not dramatic. I am excited to hear your suggestions.

Hi Amith,

Include a game like asking questions that have funny answers and give prizes for the right answer. For example, "Which bird lays the biggest egg?" Most people will answer this correctly. The next question could be, "Which bird does not lay eggs?" For this question, you have to give away a prize. Surely, this will be a lot of fun.

Remember, all male birds do not lay eggs.

Hi Amit,

This is for employees and their family members to participate. If kids also participate, you can conduct balloon bursting and announce the prices of gifts, such as the cost of a pencil, a toy car, and so on. In this way, all the children will receive prizes.

For adults, you can organize games like Tambola and "Made for Each Other."

Hi,

The basic objective of conducting an annual day celebration is to build relationships among the employees and also to create a bond between the company and the employees. Such relationship-building should be extended to the family.

Hence, from HR, you can recommend to the management to involve family members as well. But primarily, seek budget approval for this.

With regard to the events, you can conduct a light music competition among employees and also among family members, especially the women. This will also help you identify talent among employees.

You can organize indoor games like chess, carrom, and shuttle - both team and individual events.

Also, consider conducting outdoor games like cricket by forming teams among various departments or modules. Get a common cricket kit and conduct matches. Reward the winners and runners.

You can organize a drawing competition for the children, with different age groups, and give them prizes to remember. While doing so, provide them with a fancy pencil box, a small bag, or a watercolor box that children can take home and enjoy.

If family members are invited, focus more on activities that the family members will enjoy, which will also be appreciated by your employees.

For the women, you can conduct games like lime and spoon, musical chairs, etc.

Organize entertainment through professionals like mimicry artists, light music troupes, etc.

Encourage your employees to stage a small skit, group dance, or solo dance.

Thanks,
Kannan

Hi,

You can print balloons with the company's name, write "1st anniversary," and decorate the office with the same.

Announce a coloring competition. Get lots of wax crayons, chalk colors, sketch pens, poster colors, and a whole lot of brushes. Strictly one sheet of paper for each participant and a time limit of max. 30 minutes. Topic - anything that comes to mind. Let the creativity come out. Select the first 5 best entries and keep them to be converted later into greeting cards for your company.

Hi,

You can organize the following:

(a) Quiz competition
(b) Family & children games - musical chair, petty games for children
(c) Cultural evening - singing competition, dancing competition, speech competition, etc.
(d) Prize distribution
(e) Dinner & refreshments, etc.

Hi all,

I personally believe that whatever event we try to organize, the best outcome will be when all the people participate in it. From my experience, only 10-20% of the people participate, while most feel shy and others adopt a stay-back attitude. Therefore, we need to develop something that encourages everyone to participate, whether it's dancing, shaking hands, or engaging their brains together. I suggest creating a concept that includes both on-stage and off-stage events to ensure everyone's involvement. One idea is to introduce pre-event online games or quizzes where everyone participates before moving on to on-stage activities. This approach may encourage even the shy individuals to come forward, perhaps to win prizes or share something.

These are a few generic suggestions.

Hi,

You can try the following:

1. Arrange for a puppet show for the kids.

2. Employees can be asked to enact a 'typical day at the office'. This would give an idea to the onlookers about the valuable contribution all the employees make to the organization. Their families would feel the professional side of their family member, which they would otherwise never see. Try to make the enactment as spontaneous as possible. That would mean no rehearsals before the day. This would bring out some joyous and light moments all the employees share while at work. (Hope it sounds okay.)

Dear Friends,

Thank you very much for your valuable input. I will consider all of these things and make the event more colorful. Please continue to add to the list of ideas you have already provided.

Dear Amith,

As you have mentioned that you are looking for some quick games to be included in between the other programs, perhaps you could consider activities such as giving out prizes for the first person who arrives with a one-rupee note, someone who has their parents' picture in their wallet, or someone with a particular color of handkerchief, and so on. These activities would hardly take any time, and I believe that people would enjoy them.

Dear Raj,

Yes, we played this game during our college days by forming two groups. Could you please tell me the name of this game? We will definitely include it on that day.

Amith,

I do not know what it is called, but I feel there is no need for two groups for this. All you need to do is decide how many prizes you would like to distribute and then select that many number of such questions. That's it - you can go on to the stage in between the programs and announce the questions.

Hi Hiren,

Please find below some additional points to add to your list:

You may consider declaring best employee awards, giving awards, or motivating the children of employees by giving awards for distinction or for achieving more than 70%. Presenting mementos in the presence of employees and their families can also be a great way to acknowledge their achievements. Additionally, organizing anti-addiction camps focusing on issues like liquor, smoking, and promoting activities like blood donation can help boost employee morale and foster long-term relationships with their families.

I hope these suggestions are helpful.

Best regards

Hi Amit,

You can arrange for one-minute games which will really bring a lot of excitement and fun to the atmosphere. Additionally, conduct a cubicle day celebration competition; this would bring out a lot of creativity among the employees.

Hi Amit,

There is a very nice play on Ekta, featuring Hindu, Muslim, and Christian characters. The Statue of Gandhiji is also included.

Dear friend,

You can have a quiz regarding company trivia and an extempore competition. I trust we organized it well. The topics were kept light, and the duration to speak was only 30 seconds. The whole event did not take much time, but it was great fun. People enjoyed it thoroughly, and who knows, you might find a future internal trainer out of it.

Hi,

If you are going to have a party in the evening, you can conduct a dance and singing competition. If it is in the morning, you can organize musical chairs, singing, dancing, and more.

All the best.

Hey Amith,

Congratulations to your company! Let there be learning and fun. How about playing some old games, like different activities written on paper sheets, and asking people to pick one and perform the activity they choose? This idea would be thrilling and help break the ice.
