You really made me think about what I want to study in regard to attrition. Now the picture is quite clear. I want to calculate the rate of attrition in my company and identify the causes for it. Additionally, I want to provide recommendations to combat attrition. I am thinking of conducting exit interviews with employees who have already left. Please guide me.

Dear Aman,

I am glad that my post was of some use to you. Exit interviews can only provide the causes of attrition; they cannot measure the rate with that data. Moreover, the information obtained from exit interviews is sometimes hazy. There are some time-tested formulas to calculate employee attrition.

You are right that exit interviews will give me causes to find the rate of attrition and to calculate the rate of attrition. I have 4 months of data on resignations and the total number of employees in that period. Is there any positive side of attrition?

Hi,

I am currently working on a project on attrition analysis. I have almost completed calculating the attrition rate of my company across various sub-units. Additionally, with the help of exit interviews, I have identified the main reasons for attrition across the units and band-wise reasons as well.

I would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed with creating the report. Since I have analyzed the exit interview data in detail, there are different reasons for attrition among various bands. Therefore, I also require assistance on how to formulate recommendations accordingly.

For the synopsis first thing you need to do is mention the objective of the project,(The main objective of the company is to recruit the right candidate for the right position, matching the profile of a candidate with that of the client's requirement)
secondly ur targets and thirdly ur strategies to meet these targets.
Make a schedule of this and submit
do it for both i.e ur OJT and Project

I have been given the data of one month - the data of employees who absconded from the org. I called them up and found out the reasons. I found out that most left because the company did not offer them better career opportunities, not because of low compensation, but some had problems with the culture of the org. Should there be more than 2 parameters? The data is of 45 people. So should I be using a Z test? Now I have been asked to come up with a hypothesis and determine whether it is accepted or rejected. I have been asked to calculate the attrition, which I will do for the month. How do I make the project report? I am a bit confused about the parameters because there were varying opinions, but mostly stuck to no better career opportunities. I have not been asked to study the exit interviews because that part is already done by their HR. This is my summer internship project. Please help!

Please refer to the following HR Formulas:

1. Attrition Rate
Total number of people who left the organization in the period / (Headcount at the start of the period + Heads recruited during the period)

2. Manpower Turnover
Total number of people who left the organization in the period / Average headcount in the period

3. Human Capital ROI
This measures the return on capital invested in pay and benefits. The formula is:
Revenue - Nonhuman Expenses / Pay and Benefits
Pay includes all money spent on regular and contingent labor.

4. Human Capital Value Added
This uses a similar formula to Human Capital ROI but divides by the number of full-time equivalent employees (FTEs). The formula is:
Revenue - Nonhuman Expenses / Full-Time Equivalents
This yields a profit per FTE. These two measures are views of the profitability attributable to human effort.

5. Human Capital Cost
This is simply the average pay per regular employee. The formula is:
Pay + Benefits + Contingent Labor Cost / Full-Time Equivalents
It can be augmented by adding in contingent labor. In that case, we would take total labor expenses, including benefits costs, and divide by FTEs, including contingents.

6. Human Economic Value Added
This is net operating profit after tax, minus the cost of capital divided by FTEs, including contingent labor. The formula is:
Net operating profit after tax - Cost of capital / FTEs

7. Human Market Value Added
This divides market capitalization by FTEs, including contingents. The formula is:
Market Capitalization / FTEs

Hi all,

There are so many reasons for attrition, but whatever we do as a project is of little use to the company. Can anyone show a real-life situation where their project is useful to the company? Anyhow, companies are concerned about attrition, but they take steps that are of little use to the employee. In most companies, the HR job ends with selection, recruitment, and then issuing salary, and sometimes training and development. There is absolutely no industrial relations in IT companies. So, all HR professionals need to look into this and make HR shine in the future.
