Is Being an HR Manager Really a Thankless Job? Let's Discuss Your Views!

Hi all,

I'm a regular viewer of this forum, and I appreciate the solutions provided by different people. I have an idea to make this forum not only a solution provider but also a discussion point.

Many HR professionals always say HR is a thankless job. I don't know why. I'm currently working as an HR Manager in an IT company. I think HR people are a bridge between management and employees. I agree it's a sensitive job, and sometimes we need to be a little or very much harsh. But if handled properly with a combination of softness and intelligence, we can be the dearest people in an organization. This is my view. What do you say?

Come on, people, I have taken the initiative. I hope you like it. 😊

Hi Ruchi,

I don't agree with you. In fact, I think HR is the most respected job. If HR deals with the issues properly, he/she is the most wanted person in the organization. Yes, of course, sensitive issues need to be dealt with caution and care. HR has the capability to make the employees love the organization. What say?

Hmm.
I agree with your point; I also believe the same. But I think if you can provide an example of a situation when you received appreciation for your work, others can learn more about this field.
My main motive in starting this topic is to raise awareness about all aspects of HR professionals. This includes the challenges HR faces and the satisfaction they derive from their work.
What do you say...
Thank you for joining hands with me.
Nothing is impossible because "impossible" itself says "I'm possible."

Hi,

In my pursuit of a good career, "good" defined as something that I love to do and rewards equivalently well enough, I have come across two plain feelings - passion and demotivation. Passion for the field of Human Resource Management & Development; demotivation, time and again, with statements from HR professionals saying, "It's a thankless job", "It doesn't pay you well enough," etc.

Now that is a big demotivator for someone like me, who's just finished college (well, almost, results awaited), and is searching for her first crucial job. First jobs are very crucial, personally and professionally. In the past year, for the mere reason that I felt 'demotivated' from the responses, I have changed my mind a hundred times, just as one changes his/her mind when faced with many choices.

I eventually got back to searching for a job in the field of HR only. Know why? Because it came from my heart, and yes, I am a person who does not want to be stuck with a job that she doesn't feel like doing, that doesn't come from her heart. From the various posts I have read, most HR professionals are in their jobs because they love doing it. It's quite simple to decode the passion and love for their jobs even if it is in reading a few typed words.

After hard thinking, yes, that is sometimes enough to keep working on a 'thankless - as some choose to call it - job'.

Regards,

Vinisha.

Dear Friends,

I have read all of your comments and appreciate your views. Just today, I encountered a problem similar to this:

MORNING SESSION AT 09.00HRS:
There was a matter related to the finance department concerning the clearing of employees' T.A. bills. Somehow, as the HR head, I managed to solve the problem and saved 25% of the amount for management. Everyone from the Managing Director down to the staff members was happy and expressed their appreciation.

AFTERNOON SESSION AT 15.30HRS:
During this session, an authority visited for enjoyment purposes, but management denied it. The blame was shifted to the HR person. Your department always seems to be in debt, with no savings like this.

So, friends, what I have come to understand is that we, HR persons, are often seen as thankless job holders. An Englishman once said, "Why do Indians always use THANKS?" Thanks should be expressed when receiving something in the presence of the divine.

Best regards,
PBS KUMAR
