Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has announced revisions in the Income Tax slabs. The exemption threshold for all Income Tax assesses has been raised from Rs 1,10,000 to Rs 1,50,000. This change will provide a minimum relief of Rs 4,000 for every income tax assessee.
The new tax slabs will be as follows: 10% for income ranging between Rs 1,50,000 and Rs 3,00,000; 20% for income between Rs 3,00,000 and Rs 5,00,000; and 30% for income above Rs 5,00,000. The threshold for small service providers has been raised from Rs eight lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
For women, the income tax limit has been increased from Rs 1.45 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh. In the case of senior women citizens, the limit has been increased from Rs 1.95 lakh to Rs 2.25 lakh.
