Hi,

In response to your query about Restricted Holiday, I have some information to share.

"Restricted holiday along with gazetted holiday can be combined as a prefix with earned leave?"

This implies that a Restricted holiday is a day off that can be taken in addition to the gazetted holidays listed. In other words, if we have a list of ten gazetted holidays, we can take one extra holiday apart from that list.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Thank you,

There are various occassions for which, giving a holiday by the company is not mandatory / legally bounded, for example below are few holidays, which have their own importance/meaning but are not mandatory to be given by a company. These are called Restricted holiday.

Usually in addition to the holidays specified in the company concerned, an employee is entitled to avail any of the two holidays out of the listed restricted holidays during the year.

Hello friends,

Can I go on leave from 21.10.15 to 29.10.15 with the counting of earned leave from 26.10.15 to 29.10.15 (4 days)? 21st is gazetted, 22nd is a Restricted holiday, and the 23rd and 24th are gazetted. The 25th is a Sunday.

"Restricted Holiday" is the limited number of holidays granted to employees on religious/festive occasions in a calendar year over and above the approved festival holidays.

What is a Restricted Holiday?

Restricted holidays are holidays that an employee can avail from the list of Gazetted/restricted holidays. Furthermore, these are holidays only for employees and not for the organization or government departments. Their offices do not close on that day.

In India, restricted holidays are provided to employees to accommodate the festival and cultural diversity of India. People of Punjab celebrate with gusto the lovely festival of Baishakhi, but it is not celebrated all over India; however, Punjabi folks all over India celebrate it, making this holiday very important for them. Likewise, Tamil people observe Pongal, but not every state does, so Pongal can be a restricted holiday for Tamil employees to celebrate.

This highlights the need to provide restricted holidays to employees of different cultural backgrounds to show respect for our cultural pluralism. By doing so, the government has satisfied the people of different religions.

I hope this gives a background on restricted holidays.

One of our employees has applied for half-pay leave for the period 31/07/2017 - 04/08/2017 and 7th August as RH. The employee is going abroad. 5th & 6th August are the weekend. 7th August is a restricted holiday on account of Rakhi. Under this situation, RH being suffixed after the weekend, can we ignore the weekend, or should it be counted in continuation to the period already applied i.e., half-pay leave applied for the period 31/07/2017 - 04/08/2017 to be continued for 5th & 6th August, thereafter permit RH to be suffixed?

Your clarification on the above would be greatly appreciated.
