I have opened a proprietary company and wish to apply for voluntary provident fund registration. My total employee strength as of today is less than 20. I am in the offshore manpower business and hire employees on a contractual basis at a day rate.

It is always better to approach the EPF Enforcement Officer regarding these queries because he is the well-known person regarding the amendments/changes in the act.

I am sure you are in the manpower supply business and interested in developing your business. Even if your current strength is less than 20, it will grow, which will necessitate registration under the EPF & MP Act, ESI Act, etc.

Approach for EPF Registration

I would suggest that you approach the EPFO to collect the required forms, fill them out, and submit them along with all supporting documents. It may take some time for the EPFO to verify your establishment's identity, credibility, etc., before allotting the EPF Code Number. However, whenever you need to provide the EPF Code, you can indicate the status of your EPF code application with proof. Clients would consider your tenders subject to the production of proof.

Expedited Registration Process

If your business grows to the point of requiring immediate registration, you can approach the RPFC/APFC for expedited allotment. I believe you can handle the registration process without needing anyone's help. However, compliance with the provisions of the EPF & MP Act must be done diligently, for which you may need the assistance of professionals or specific knowledgeable employees.
