Navigating Internal Job Postings: How Can My Team and I Get Started?

Parul_HR
Hello,

My team has asked me to participate in an Internal Job Posting (IJP), and all my team members are new to this concept. Can anybody guide me on how we can go about the IJP and what things need to be kept in mind during this process? I am eagerly waiting for responses.

Hi,

IJP is a way to tap into internal talent and provide growth opportunities to employees. First, list down the eligibility criteria for the position for which an IJP is being conducted. Then, shortlist candidates as per the criteria and conduct a role play or group discussion for them to identify the skills and knowledge required to be possessed by them. Furthermore, a final interview can be conducted with the suitable panel members to select the suitable candidate for the position.

Hi,

The objective of an IJP is to provide growth opportunities to employees by identifying the talent required internally rather than hiring people externally.

Thank you.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if internal job posting and job rotation are the same? Does demotion and transfers include them?

Hi,

"Internal job posting" is a process to develop the skill set of your potential employees. The idea behind this policy is to give exposure to employees in every department in which they have the ability to perform as well as they are equally interested.

It will be beneficial for you to maintain a distinction between your promotion and IJP policy. IJP is used for lateral movement. For example, if you have a vacancy in marketing, you can post an IJP and invite potential and experienced salespeople to apply for it. The goal is to expose individuals to various departments to enhance their skills.

Demotions ideally should not be included in IJP. You should nominate only those employees who are at an equal or lower level than the vacancies.

Transfers cannot be included in the IJP as it is a distinct process. However, an IJP can be in any office of your organization, so you should inquire whether the nominated employee is open to relocation.

Please let me know if you need further clarification or have additional questions.

There are some Internal Job Postings (IJPs) in my company, and I want to apply for one. Can you help me draft an email to nominate myself for that IJP?

Priya
