Feeling Stuck in HR: Should I Accept a Recruitment Role or Hold Out for My Dream Job?

Dear Sir,

I have a doubt. I'm in the HR field for the past 1.3 years. I have worked as an HR Assistant, Trainee Payroll Executive, and now as a Payroll Executive. However, at my present company, they want me to be an Accounts Executive, which I'm not interested in. I am searching for a job as an HR Generalist, but I am only getting offers for HR Executive (Recruitment) positions. Should I take up that offer? Will I have a future in that? I need your advice on this.

I too started my career only as a recruiter, but I have slowly started to expand into other verticals as well. I work for a software company.

What you can do is find more details of the company that is offering you the opportunity, and if you feel the scope is right, you can surely take it up.

If your present employer is forcing you to join the accounts department and you are interested in pursuing a career in HR, try to convince your senior management about this. You should present your case in a way that makes them see the value you can add to the HR department. If you fail to convince them, then I don't see any other option; you may have to consider seeking a change.

The offer you are discussing seems fine if the company's profile is good. At the beginning of your career, you should aim for a generalist role. Work in various core HR roles to gain exposure to different aspects and understand them clearly before transitioning into a generalist role.
