Are Women in Western Attire Facing Safety Risks at Work? Let's Discuss HR's Role and Impact on Male Colleagues

Hello,

Dear all,

Is there a physical threat to female employees who wear Western-style dresses while on duty or in public? Please give your valuable views. Is it another responsible job for HR professionals to maintain security for female employees in the workplace? Is there any effect on the productivity of male employees who work with such female employees?

Hi,

Definitely, dressing style shows influence on organizational culture. Women should dress in a dignified manner as it helps in creating a positive organizational culture. Whether the dressing style is Western or Indian, it should always be dignified and reflect a sense of professionalism. In my opinion, organizations should implement and maintain a dress code for at least two days a week. This practice fosters harmony among employees and contributes to upholding a strong organizational culture.

Hi Sidhu,

We cannot comment on anyone's dressing style, but yes, there should be a code of the organization that maintains professionalism in the air. To ensure this, the HR department should make sure that the rules are followed by everyone, not just the women but also the men. Rules should be the same for everyone and applicable too.

Dear Team,

"Dress" is a subset of "address." You wear attire as per your choice, like and love.

So, your dressing reflects your thoughts. One should be very careful while dressing. It is not only the textile but the inclusion of accessories, shoes, belts, etc., that completes the definition of dressing. You may wear a very expensive suit, but with an old, tattered leather belt or watch. Isn't it disgusting?

In an organization, there has to be decorum. I think where employees hold big degrees, are good with fluent language, and have ideas, they should automatically have the education to carry themselves.

Dress should always be what makes you and those around you comfortable. It should be followed with good manners and courtesy. For example, an executive wears a perfect shirt and tie matching his suit and trousers, perfect shoes, socks, and other accessories. He is a complete man in his appearance to impress anyone, but in the midst of this, if he starts digging his nose... Well, don't you think this spoils his entire self?

You may wear western, ethnic, traditional, or any style, but if presented in a sober, decent manner, then you would never be held accountable for inculcating any sort of security threat, animosity, or even vanity (for women) in your organization, locality, or wherever you are.

After all, you don't demand respect; you earn it. Your beauty is not in exposing your flesh but in displaying your righteous attitude, character, and knowledge.

Thanks,

Moushmi

Hi, Mr. Siddu.

You are right. The code of conduct and the dress of the employee should reflect their personality and physique. Both male and female employees should wear decent attire. It shouldn't be provocative. Whether Western or Indian attire, it should be modest and not revealing. It is always beneficial to have a dress code in an organization.

Why is a western outfit considered bad? A woman can look decent in anything she wears, as long as she wants to. A woman can wear a backless salwar kameez or a transparent saree. That wouldn't affect productivity? Surprised!
