Hi,

Now up to 5000/- is exempted from Professional Tax in AP from Jan/08 (Separate GO copy is readily available). I hope that the same slab is applicable all over the place.

In India, the State Governments are authorized to charge and collect professional tax on any income earned by an individual. Professional tax is deducted on account of the said provisions and thus varies from state to state.
For e.g. it is deducted
In Tamil Nadu –@ Rs. 1620 per annum
In Karnataka -@ Rs. 2400 per annum
In Andhra Pradesh -@ Rs. 2400 per annum
In Maharahstra -@ Rs. 2500 per annum

Venkataram S,

Please guide me on how to calculate professional tax. Also, should overtime allowance and EPF be considered in the calculation of professional tax?

Thank you.

Hi Everyone,

Please, can anyone clarify my doubt?

In Karnataka, the PT cutoff is 15000/-
1. If a person's monthly salary is 15100/-, he is applicable for PT. If the same person's net amount falls below 15000/- due to absences, is the PT still applicable or not?
2. If the same person is absent for 29 days in a month, resulting in a salary of only 503/-, what is the PT rate? Should we deduct PT from his salary or not?

Kindly, can anyone help me out with this?

Hi Shiva,

If an employee's gross salary exceeds Rs. 14,999 per month, we need to deduct Rs. 200 as Professional Tax (PT).

Regards,
Shiva
