How Can I Ensure My PF Number Is Correct and My Contributions Are Credited Properly?

Ashwini K
Dear Seniors,

How do we verify that our PF number is correct and that the amount is being credited to that specific number?

Please advise.

Hi Ashwini,

While signing up for PF, you must have filled out a form for an NSSN number, wherein you would receive a card similar to a PAN card. You may use that card to check with any PF office about your accumulated amount in the PF account.

Seniors, please correct me if I am wrong...

Hi Chanchal,

Thank you for your reply.

In our organization, I didn't fill any kind of form. When we asked, they said that it's not compulsory. We are all feeling quite tense about this.

Kindly suggest a course of action for me.

Hi,

You must be receiving a salary slip every month. It is mandatory. The organization shall show deductions made. Keep this safe.

If no PF deduction is shown, that implies you are not getting covered. You will receive annual statements from the EPF office.

Youngsters are lucky as you are all getting issued with NSSN number. However, EPFO is yet to be fully computerized. They are planning for members to access and see your accumulation at any time. It may take a few years.

Right now, you need to keep track of your payslip.

Would anyone please provide the form for the NSSN number? What should be done if someone is registered with the EPFO but has not filled out the NSSN form?

Dear Friend,

You can go to the regional PF office where you will get the NSSF forms, and you can proceed further.

Hi,

I'm working with an IT company. I got into payroll from May 2007, and in December 2007, I received a PF annual statement for 2006-2007, stating only one month of employer/employee's contribution in a year instead of eight months, i.e., from May to December. What about the other deductions happening since May?

Can anyone tell me whether it is correct and why?

Thanks,
Marufa

Hi Marufa!

Accounting for PF is done on a March to February basis, so it is a little different from the regular April to March financial year. This difference can sometimes create confusion in understanding.

However, in your case, this March to February cycle does not seem to be the issue. If you provide details about your employment term and relevant dates, perhaps someone from our team can clarify it.

Dear Seniors,

It's very simple to check Form 9 or Form 5 for your PF number and review the Annual returns, i.e., Form 6A & 3A for your contribution.

Hi Siva,

My date of joining (DOJ) is 1st Feb 07. That means for 11 months, I should receive a statement. Or is the annual statement for the financial year 2006-2007?

Hi Chanchal,

You are right, but the doubt was about the correct PF number and contribution. Not all organizations or companies are covered or use the NSSN facility.

Hi Srinivas,

Is it possible to attach the formats please if you have them? I want to confirm whether our PF number is correct or not.

Hi Marufa,

Your PF annual statement is correct because you joined in February 2007, and you received contributions only for the month of February 2007.

Please remember that the PF contribution year runs from March to February. In this case, it covers the period from March 2006 to February 2007.

Therefore, your statement is accurate.

Regards, Ravi.
