S.N.Rahaman
Dear All,

I am in the Training and Induction department. Every month, I will be inducting 100 employees. Can anybody share their views on the "qualities of a good trainer"?

A trainer is not just a trainer or a consultant but a facilitator. As a facilitator, he is a leader - invisible, a chameleon, a dictator, a conductor, a parent holding the bicycle in the beginning and later letting go. His goals are: enlightenment, encouragement. He has to be credible, challenging, convincing. He is reliable, responsible, resourceful, and, more than anything else, relevant. He must be ready "to empty his purse into his head." He coaches for performance, for performance management, for new skills.

Here are a few points I would like to share with site visitors:

- A trainer should be a role model for his trainees.
- They should be knowledgeable about the content and thorough to ensure their trainees gain more trust regarding any queries asked.
- Patience when required is crucial, along with being more understanding towards the attendees' attention.
- Adaptability is important when it comes to new and unknown things; mainly, one should adapt to the good and the bad, identify the sources of distraction, and try to minimize them.

A good trainer must continually update himself in terms of self-development and knowledge. He must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
