Understanding Notice Periods: When Does a One-Month Resignation Actually End?

jyotinegi
Dear all,

I am working in the Administration division of my company. I want to know that while accepting a resignation, if a person has given one month's notice which is as per the requirement of the company, how can we count the notice period? For example, somebody has given resignation with one month's notice on 5th Feb. 08, when will his notice period be completed, on 4th of March or 5th of March? Generally, we take it one day prior in the next month. Is it correct?

I also want to know if we can accept a resignation on a back date.

Dear Sender,

In this case, you can consider the date of 4.3.2008 as one month's notice period completed. If management wishes to relieve the employee, then there is no problem in accepting backdated resignation letters.

Dear Jyoti,

If someone has, suppose, given their resignation today, i.e., 5th Feb, then their last date would be 5th March only. However, in case the person has completed their tasks prior, it would be advisable to relieve the person depending on the date when they have completed their assignments.

Thank you.
