How Can My Brother Withdraw His Provident Fund from a Previous Employer Without Contact?

Hi Experts,

My brother was working in a software company three years ago. Now, he is working in another company. He wants to withdraw the PF amount accumulated from his old company. Will he be able to do it? He doesn't have any contact with the old company, and I suppose they need some ID or number from the old company. In this case, how do we go about doing it? Will he receive the amount? He is not sure about how to go about getting the amount. Kindly let us know the formalities that need to be completed.

Thank you very much.

Dear Veggi,

To withdraw PF, your brother needs the PF account number that was allotted by the employer while he was in service with that employer. To withdraw, he has to submit FORM 19 under the PF Act 1952. It is better to transfer the PF accumulations to the new employer if he is currently working there. If he does not have his PF account number, he should ask his past employer for it. If the employer does not provide the number, he may lodge a complaint with the respective PF office.

Dear Friend,

Your brother can withdraw or transfer the PF amount to a new organization. For withdrawal, use Form 19 and Form 10C. For transfer, use Form 13A (Revised) - these were the old procedures before the introduction of the e-Return by the PF. Now, PF has introduced the e-Return procedure, and under this new process, the forms have changed. Kindly advise your brother to contact the concerned PF Regional Office for the necessary forms.

Regarding your query about the PF Account Number, he can find it on his Payslip provided by the employer. For withdrawal or transfer, the NNNN number is required. If not applied, please do so now.

Hi,

For your brother to withdraw his PF, he can follow these steps:

Ask your brother to visit his previous company and inform them about his desire to withdraw his PF. The HR department generally keeps withdrawal forms. Make sure he fills out two forms: Form 19 for PF and Form 10c for pension withdrawal. One form is for PF, and the other is for pension withdrawal.

The details such as PF account number, the place or trust where the company maintained PF can be obtained from the HR department itself. Also, ensure that your brother provides the complete and correct address of the bank where he wants the money to be transferred, along with the accurate bank account number.

Your brother can submit the filled-out forms to the HR department, and they should process it for him, as companies usually have their own PF consultants who handle such tasks.

Feel free to reach out for any further assistance.

Thank you,
Kavita
