Considering a Career Shift to HR: Should I Start Now or Wait Until After My MBA?

I have been working for the last 2 years at Reliance as a Secretary. However, the nature of the job is different, and I also have 2 years of previous experience as an executive at D-Link India Ltd, totaling 4 years of experience in administrative roles.

Currently, I do not have interest in pursuing a Stenographer position. I am seeking career growth, so I have taken the initiative to appear for the first semester MBA (HR) examination at Symbiosis.

In the future, I am aiming for a job as an HR Executive. Can you suggest if this is a good step? Should I consider changing jobs after completing the MBA or during the course? At present, I do not have any issues with my current job.

Would it be beneficial to work as an HR executive during my MBA? Will the experience be useful in the long run?

What is your educational background? Why are you going into the HR industry? If you can give some details about yourself and why you have opted for the HR industry, it will be easier to give some suggestions. Even those suggestions may not be the most appropriate, but at least they will not be the standard cut and paste stuff that any of us can give you without knowing what your strengths and interests are.

However, my current role is more administrative in nature rather than directly related to HR functions such as recruitment, training, and development. I lack specialized experience in HR. How can I tailor my resume to improve my chances of securing HR roles?

Unless you already have a background in HR, I do not think you will be able to honestly change your resume to make you suitable for an HR function. However, since you are already in the HRD department of that company, it is an excellent opportunity for you to learn.

On completing your regular work, put in extra hours to learn about the HR activities. By showing them your interest in HR while continuing to do well in your current function, they may consider giving you some part-time opportunities to learn.

As far as my educational background is concerned, I have completed my graduation and M.A. from Delhi University. Currently, I am working as a Secretary at RIL, handling assignments related to publications, disputed cases, minor cases, portals, bill clearance through SAP, and LDD monitoring.

After two years, I have realized that my confidence in stenography has decreased due to lack of practice, and I am no longer interested in pursuing a career in stenography. I have been drawn to HR jobs and have pursued an MBA in HR to further my career. My experience in administrative roles could also be relevant in this field.

It is my personal interest to transition to a different role, and I believe I have the capability to succeed in this new path.
