Transitioning from Army to HR: What Qualifications Do I Need for Top Management Roles?

rd_3468
Hi, I am an Army Officer planning to quit within the next two to three years. I have put in 18 years of service. While in service, I had the opportunity to raise and command an independent unit. Other than my normal graduation, I have also completed my PGDBA with HRM as specialization from SCDL (Pune). I am looking to enter top management positions in HR.

What I would like to know is:
- What is the weightage of the above qualification in the corporate world?
- Do I need to acquire some other qualifications? If so, then what and from which institutes can they be obtained? This is because while in service, I may not get the opportunity to do any regular management courses.
- Finally, what positions can one look forward to with the present qualifications? 😊

Hello CiteHR Mates,

I, Lt. Col. (Retd), hung up my spurs last October (Oct '08). I have two MBAs in HR from Symbiosis, Pune. I completed my full-time PGDBA (PM & HR) from SIMS from 2003 to 2005. I'm currently seeking suitable opportunities in the Corporate Sector. I have attached my resume for your perusal and would appreciate any suitable advice. I look forward to hearing from you fine folks.

Cheers! Karan
