How Can I Guide M.B.A. Interns on HR Projects Like Recruitment and Performance Appraisal?

I am a fresher in this field, having completed my M.B.A. with a focus on HR. I am currently working as an HR Head for a BPO and consulting company.

Recently, some M.B.A. students in their project internship phase approached me for guidance. I can provide them with various project topics, but I require some assistance on how to effectively engage these candidates in their projects and how a company can leverage their skills to create a mutually beneficial situation. If possible, please explain the steps to be taken to guide the students in working on topics such as "Recruitment" or "Performance Appraisal."

Look, it's very simple to select the topic for a project. You just have to take care of one thing - what is currently going on in the company?

I did my training at Indian Oil. At that time, recruitments were going on, that's why I selected that topic. They gave me the opportunity to learn about application registration, maintaining MIS, filling bonds, campus recruitments, and you have to show them that you are doing training to learn something. Just show your interest, and they will definitely involve you.

If something is happening around and you are not involved, you can still learn the process through observation.

Another method to select the HR topic - just observe for two or three days which function is more focused on by the HR department. For example, if HR focuses more on payrolls as compared to training, then go ahead with the compensation benefits topic.

Now, you will say most organizations do have a payroll function, which I agree with. However, not all companies provide training. In that case, to be different, choose the training topic.

If you get training in a good manufacturing firm, then I must say forget about the project, just focus on learning more and more through observation, interacting with superiors, employees. I'm saying all this because it helped me a lot!
