Navigating Provident Fund Claims: How to Calculate and Verify Your Amount After Leaving a Job

Query: I left my previous company almost two and a half months ago. I worked there for about 17 months. How should I calculate the amount of my provident fund by the end of 17 months? Furthermore, how should I proceed to claim my provident fund money from the firm? Could you also suggest a quick way for me to verify that I have received the correct amount? Thank you.

Hi,

PF is being contributed at 12% of the basic salary from the employee's side and 3.67% from the employer's side (as the remaining 8.33% goes to the Pension fund).

Based on this, you can calculate the amount according to your basic salary during the period. Moreover, an interest rate of 9% will also be paid as announced by the government.

To obtain the amount, visit your previous employer, fill up the PF withdrawal form 10C and Form 19, and submit them to the HR department. They will process it with the PF department, and within a month, you will receive the amount in your mentioned bank account number.

Hi,

It's Form 19 as well as Form 10C, which are PF withdrawal forms. You will receive it within 30 days after submission to the PF department.

To get the provident fund back from the company, does one need to properly resign from the company? For example, I left my company without giving a resignation. Can I still claim the provident fund money through that company? In that case, is there any separate way to do so?

Hi Sandeep,

Yes, it's required to separate from the company in a formal way if you claim the same through the company. Even otherwise, it's required to submit your resignation to the organization.

Dear All,

Kindly help me out. What should be my next step in the following matter? I was with an employer for 7 months, but I submitted my Form 19 and Form 10C after one year, and I submitted the forms myself at the PF office on 26th March 09. Still, I have not yet received my amount in my specified bank account. Should I wait for the next 10 days, since it takes 45 days (at max)? Or should I visit the PF office? How should I proceed? Please help me out.

Regards,
Trish

Hi,

It also depends on your attendance, for example. If the basic is 5000, then the PF is 5000 @ 12%, which is 600. However, if you have exhausted your sanctioned leaves and your month of attendance is 25 days, then 5000/30*25 = 4166, therefore 4166 @ 12%, which equals 499. This means that your PF is also calculated based on attendance.

First, you have to ask your HR whether PF is based on capped basic or actuals.
