Struggling to Choose an HRM Project for My Summer Internship – Is Compensation Management a Good Idea?

muralisubedar
Hi! This is Murali Subedar from Hyderabad. I am a student by profession (MBA). This summer, we have been assigned to do a project in our specialization. As I have decided to take HRM, I am in a dilemma about what project to choose for my SIP (Summer Internship Program). The question of whether compensation management would be a good choice arises. I hope someone with work experience in this field could help me out. Please, guys, help me out. Bye.

Hi,

Is your project work research-oriented or consultancy-oriented? Based on this nature of your effort, the scope of the study will change. However, I will provide you with an overall view of how you could tackle a project related to compensation management.

The selected topic, which is compensation management, seems to be vague. Therefore, try to narrow down the topic. I will give you a few examples:

- Compensation management in public banks
- Compensation management in BPOs
- Compensation management in call centers
- Executive compensation management in multinationals
- Compensation management in small firms
- Compensation management policies in software firms

The topics I have listed are more research-oriented, and you can further focus your study by narrowing it down to a particular region or district.

Hello everyone,

I am doing an MBA and working on an internal project on Compensation Management (CM). The topics of concern are:
- Compensation practices and motivation
- Emerging issues in CM in IT-enabled services
- CM in Indian organizations: specific issues and practices
- Wage issues in new-age manufacturing units

The requirement of the project is to conduct some literature review and provide recommendations later on. I am a bit confused about how to proceed. Please help.

Reply as soon as possible as I have limited time.

Hi,

You have to choose a particular area of compensation. Compensation management is a very broad concept, and you have to select a specific aspect of it:

- A particular industry
- A particular function (skill-based compensation, time-based compensation, or skill-over compensation)

Thank you.

I have just completed an internal project in compensation management, so I do not have much experience. However, as I have studied the subject for 3 months, I think it's a good topic to take on for projects like payroll and other good topics that are in demand for compensation management nowadays.

Good luck!

Hi Aditi,

I too am working on a project on compensation surveys during my summer internship. My focus is on the water purifier industry. Could you please share how you have approached the project?

Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if the tax-free amount for women is 160,000? And is this exemption based on the basic salary or the total income?

Please search the web and write your own, and then ask for feedback; that's the best way to learn.

Dear All,

I'm working as an HR Coordinator in a leading Retail Supermarket in Saudi Arabia, and I was given the task to create our company's compensation manual. I'm quite new to the Compensation role. I would like to ask what should be the content of the compensation manual. I would appreciate it if someone could provide/send a sample of it.

Dear Lavina,

Please do not request finished projects or questionnaires on this forum without giving enough information.

Instead of asking for a completed project, please search CiteHr where some projects are attached. Then do a literature survey and formulate your aim and objectives for the research (in consultation with the host organisation). You also need a conceptual framework for that. Decide what hypotheses you want to test.

If you have not done any of the above essential preparation for conducting a project, I would advise you to do so and then pose a precise question.

Please see my post on Research Methodology (Ppt slides attached) at research projects and Author Workshops at Publishing in International journals and my post at need urgent help for my MBA final year project (HR).

I am not sure if you have read any literature on questionnaire design. If not, go to questionnaire design + guidelines - Google Search. Also, see MBA Project/Dissertation where an MBA project is attached as an example.

A Post by Prodcons also has information on Research Methodology.

Also view and digest the message that ahujamamamia posted at Citehr Marble Story. Try to become the marble statue rather than the tile.

Please read the post by Sayanasayu at questionnaire or welfare measures - reg.

Have a nice day.

Hello,

Can anyone please tell me how to view the files that are uploaded? The website gives an error when I try to download or view the compensation file. :(

Hello everyone,

I am new to this site. I am working on my HR project focusing on compensation management in an HR consultancy firm. I began this project two weeks ago and have reviewed all the compensation policies of the firm. Now, it's time for me to prepare a questionnaire for the project. Please suggest how I should proceed with the questions and how to make my questionnaire engaging for the employees, ensuring I receive reliable answers.

I am looking forward to your valuable suggestions before moving forward.

Thank you,
Goodbye.

Studying Company Practices and Literature

It's not enough to study the company practices. Depending on your aim and objectives, you need to study relevant literature (journal articles) to see what others have done, how, and why in that way. Please see my posts in this thread for more details.

Have a nice day.

Regards, Simhan

You need to decide what the purpose of your study is. Is it information gathering, gauging satisfaction through a survey, or suggesting some changes in the compensation structure, etc.? Based on the aim, you can decide on the questions and the overall approach.

Pranav

Please refer to a situation - An employee joined an organization on a certain date. However, the company, by mistake, registered his name in the PF account one year later. Now, following the pension amount calculation formula (i.e. Pensionable salary/70 x no. of years in service), it is found that the employee will lose a sum of Rs. 93 per month. Now, the employer wants to compensate for his loss. How can the loss of that employee be compensated in a suitable way? Please suggest.
