Job Sites: Are They Really Effective for Finding Top Talent?

I feel your opinion is wrong. Job sites will help a lot. If you post the requirement, you may not get good profiles, but if you have some time and can source the resume, then you will get excellent profiles.

I am running a small software development company and use job boards regularly to find the right candidates to hire. However, my experience with job sites like Naukri and Monster hasn't been very positive. A single job post fetches up to 100-150 responses, and most of them are unqualified. Is it only me, or has this been the experience of others as well?

As we are a small company, we do not have a separate HR department, so sorting through resumes really becomes a headache. I would like to ask the community members about their opinion on job sites – do they work for you? It doesn't work for me, at least.

I think your opinion is not okay. You received a good response. There are several ways of getting correct resumes. The main issue is to sort out and shortlist the candidates. You have to spend the time. I have experience with the same. Instead of giving advertisements in newspapers, a better way is searching through such sites.

Thank you for the responses. Job sites do receive responses, but the Quality-to-Quantity ratio is very low. I only received 10-15 good resumes out of 149. For a company of our size, it would be much better to receive around 25-30 high-quality resumes only. However, I still don't know how to achieve that as most job sites provide high quantity but low quality. Additionally, job sites do not allow for targeting passive candidates. Do you have any suggestions on how to target passive candidates?

Job sites work. Almost all professionals are now on them. The trick then is to set your requirements accurately. I feel you are not getting the right response because you haven't categorized your needs correctly. If the requirement is specific, you need to put it exactly as it is.

I am not saying that job sites don't work. It's just that they are not very efficient. In fact, I find forums like these could be much more useful for hiring candidates. If our company has a requirement for an HR professional, posting on this forum will fetch much better responses compared to posting on job sites. I guess from now onwards I will start posting job vacancies in niche forums like these because niche forums can provide targeting which a generic job site does not provide. What do other members here think about it?

Basically, sourcing of applications is what you are talking about. It is almost equivalent to sourcing customers. In sales and marketing, you have inquiries, and what is the final hit rate? It depends on so many factors:

1. Your company's brand image
2. Reach of the advertisement
3. Job Profile
4. Your pay structure
5. Availability of the manpower

I have released advertisements worth 10 lakhs, and the advertisement was rated as one of the best, but I received just five applications!!! And I did not select any one. When we introspected later, we realized that we were trying to oversell the job.

My advice to you would be to go through some Placement Agencies who know the trick. It is worth spending.
