It is Sodexo. It is a company that specializes in Food and Facilities Management services and provides coupons to corporates, including meal coupons, shopping coupons, and more. If desired, please visit the website: http://www.sodexo.co.in/inen/default.asp
These gift coupons could be given to employees as a reward for target fulfillment, along with any commendation letter or similar tokens of appreciation.
Also, the benefit is that the amount for which these coupons are given is tax-exempt. This is the main idea behind giving Sodexo coupons to employees by the company.
Sodexo coupons are an attempt to save on your income tax. For example, if some companies work on a 70-30 scheme where 70% is your taxable income and 30% is non-taxable, then 20% of your income will have a Sodexo coupon component as well. If you wish to withdraw from the scheme, then the income becomes taxable.
Thank you for your inquiry. I have checked with our Accounts Department and was informed that the limit has been removed for the current financial year. Previously, the limit was Rs. 50 per day (50 * 26 days = Rs. 1300 per month).
Sodexo is not taxable with any limit. We have recently introduced Sodexo in our company, and it is completely non-taxable. Previously, there was a limit, but now it is completely non-taxable.
Can you please forward the relevant Income Tax notification/circular/guidelines for "no limit" for meal coupons?
Regards,
Jaykay
