Wishing you a Happy New Year and Advance Happy Pongal Wishes! I am working as an HR Recruiter for a leading consultancy in Chennai. I am interested in becoming an HR Generalist, but I have a BCA Graduate background, so I am currently pursuing an MBA.

What are the qualifications required for an HR Generalist, and what are the typical activities involved in this role?

Activities of the HR Generalist include:

- Responsible for the end-to-end Recruitment process.
- To assist in the manpower plan by obtaining the manpower indents on a monthly basis.
- Obtain approval for all manpower requirements as submitted by the department heads.
- Resource the required skill sets by utilizing the necessary recruitment channels.
- Validate the profiles of candidates by matching them with the requirements.
- Arrange and schedule HR interviews for shortlisted candidates.
- Analyze the results of the shortlisted candidates for the Technical interview.
- Keep track of Interview evaluation sheets of all interviewed candidates.
- Providing MIS on a timely basis to the HR Head.

Personnel Security
- Maintain Employee Database.
- Maintain Personnel File Records.
- Issue offer letters/increment letters/experience letters/warning letters/Termination letters and other correspondence.
- Update time and attendance records.
- Handle documentation related to the HR Department and Office Administration.
- Assist and arrange for all social activities like Cricket matches, dinners, and lunch parties, etc.
- Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the organization.
- Enforce the Code of Conduct.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the trust of management regarding all responsibilities handled.
- Act as the office intelligence to the Head HR and the President.
- Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by the HR Head or the President from time to time.
- Manage Petty Expenses.
- Administrative Vendor Interface.
- Responsible for maintaining an effective company environment.
- Direct computation of pay according to company policy.
- Direct compilation and preparation of other payroll data such as pension, insurance, and credit union payments.
- Review and approve payroll deductions.
- Review payroll to ensure accuracy.
- Issue written and oral instructions.
- Maintain harmony among workers and resolve grievances.
- Identify administrative needs and develop appropriate solutions or recommendations.
- Review and respond to correspondence.
- Direct services such as computer and office equipment maintenance and repair, supplies, mail, and files.
- Facilitate obtaining Visas for employees going for training or seminars.

Regarding HR Generalist Qualifications, it must be at least an MBA in HR or PGD in HR in some companies.
