Is the Motor Transport Act Needed for Factories with 5+ Drivers? Seeking Urgent Clarification

Is the Motor Transport Act applicable to all factories where 5 or more drivers are engaged in internal transport of goods vehicles and staff transport vehicles?

If so, when all employees are covered by all labor laws and the Factories Act, receiving all benefits under statutory regulations like other employees, is it necessary to implement?

If registration under this act is required, what is the fee to be paid?

Who will be the statutory authority under the State Government?

Please clarify urgently.

No, it is applicable only to motor and transport undertakings where 5 or more drivers are employed. Factories and shops are out of its purview. For more clarification, please refer to the said act.

Motor Transport Act Applicability

The Motor Transport Act is applicable to all factories where five or more employees (including drivers and cleaners) are engaged in the internal transport of goods vehicles and staff transport vehicles. The competent authority under the act is the ACL concerned with the local area where the factory is situated. After obtaining the license by paying the fee at the treasury challan along with Form No. I, it must also be renewed every year before the end of October.
