Hi,

All the possible reasons for changing or switching a job depend on the needs of a person. In IT, currently, I believe that pulling money and getting hikes is the most important and ongoing reason why people quit so fast. Better projects are also a significant factor as people want to know what they are going to work on, the clients involved, the market value of the company, etc.

Other, but least looked forward to, reasons include mental satisfaction, job satisfaction, environment, distance, and role change. However, these reasons are also factors that people consider when looking for a change.

Hi Sonit,

According to me, the main reason why people switch jobs are:

1. Pay package: Wherever you get a higher price, it's human psychology to want more than what you currently have.
2. Atmosphere/Environment: If a person is not comfortable with his fellow colleagues, he may feel insecure and left out, which could be one of the reasons for switching jobs.
3. Job Location: Being closer to home can make communication easier and more convenient.
4. Career growth: If growth opportunities are stagnant for a long time, this could also be a reason for changing jobs.

Sonit, the question is good: What makes you switch jobs? Hope you receive lots of replies.

Take care,
Priya

Hi Sonit,

Here I go with my two reasons:

1) Unsatisfactory job profile.
2) Sometimes problems with their respective leads. (I personally have seen many cases like this).

Hi all,

As per my views, the Two-Factor Theory given by Herzberg is relevant to the issue of high attrition. According to him, there are two factors: Hygiene factors and Motivation factors.

In the present scenario, the two main reasons for anyone leaving a job are:

1. Job Profile, i.e., the work that the person needs to do on a daily basis.
2. Salary

An employee should be given a job responsibility two levels higher than what he can currently handle. This will significantly improve his motivation level and empower him to think beyond his current capabilities.

Regarding salary, when an employee is assigned work two levels higher, management would likely offer a more competitive pay package.

These are my views. I hope they will be helpful for everyone in combating attrition in their company.

Hi Sonit,

What I feel is, freshers look for change because:
1) They'll be at the start of their career, and they want to learn more and more to be perfect in their field if their present job is not giving them growth.
2) Obviously, it can be a monetary reason; they will look for an increase in their package.
3) If mental satisfaction or working environment is not good.

Experienced individuals will look for a change for these reasons:
1) To get a hike in salary and promotion from the current designation.
2) If the working environment is not good or if any politics is going on in the company.

Hi Sonit,

I believe these are the main reasons why people decide to switch jobs:

1) Career growth - The new generation has high aspirations and they strive for advancement. If a company does not offer a clear career path, employees are likely to leave.

2) Work conditions (long hours and travel) - While many enjoy the fast-paced lifestyle, ultimately, people value spending time with their families.

3) Pay package - It's essential to acknowledge the rising costs of commodities, interest rates, income tax, etc. Employees need to keep up with these expenses, often relying on modest annual increments provided by their employers.

I think the above factors are significant. What are your thoughts, Sonit?

Cheers,
Kapil

Hi Sonit,

I agree with Kapil. Today, people check the job profile first before joining any new company. It helps you climb up the ladder because the job profile is more important than money.

Hi Sonit,
In my view money is not the only key factor why people leave organisation. There are can be some other reasons too.
Like:
· No growth opportunity/lack of promotion
. Job profile not being satisfactory
· For Higher education
· Misguidance by the company
· Policies and procedures are not conducive
· No personal life
· Physical strains
· Uneasy relationship with peers or managers
. Lack of recognition
Hope the above points answers your query.
Thanks n Regards,
Shilpy
