Lost PF Account After Company Sale: How Can I Retrieve My Money?

I was working in GE APAR Lighting Pvt Limited in Chennai. My PF account was managed by headquarters in Gujarat. Unfortunately, I do not have any contacts for my employers as they have also sold off the company to someone else. How can I retrieve my money back?

There is a lack of awareness among many people about PF/pension and gratuity matters. Gone are the days when people used to stay in one company and retire from there only. Now, resignations are very common as young people look for better opportunities. One thing all of you must remember is that the PF number for an employee is allotted by the Company and not by RPFC, whether it is exempted or unexempted PF. The PF number starts with the state code followed by the RPFC code allotted to the Company and then followed by the employee's PF number. For example, MH stands for Maharashtra, 35086 is the code number given by RPFC to the Company, and finally, 835 is the individual PF number of the employee. But for all communication purposes, you have to quote the full number MH/35086/835. Immediately after getting the first month's salary, you must insist on the PF number if the same is not appearing in the payslip. Please remember the employer is bound by statute to inform the PF office about the joining and resignations of employees with their PF numbers. Therefore, you don't have to run from pillar to post for your PF number. Insist your employer to give you the same. If the employer does not furnish it, he must be doing something wrong and violating the statute.

As Chandrasekar stated, you can contact the PF redressal cell. Analyze which zone your company will fall under. If you tell the locality of your office to the PF office or any consultant, they will guide you on which zone, either Tambaram or any other. This will narrow down your search.

EPF Account Number Retrieval Assistance Needed

I have worked in the following organizations during the mentioned periods but could not obtain my EPF account number as it is very old:

- Organization 1: from Dec 1988 to Aug 1989 (approximately 9 months)
- Organization 2: from Dec 1990 to July 1991 (7 months).

There was a one-year break in between due to Act Apprentice training.

Both of the mentioned organizations are currently active, but they are unable to trace my account number. What steps should I take? Please assist me.

Additionally, my new account number is active.

Merging Old PF Accounts into a New One

I worked as a JT Secretary at Uptron CPT Ltd. in Sahibabad, Delhi, during 1993-94. Due to certain reasons, the company closed, and I am currently employed at Sukhbir Agro Energy Ltd. I want to merge both PF accounts into a new PF account. The issue is that the account number I received earlier is too small, and I cannot check its status as it indicates that the account number is not valid. How can I obtain a new account instead of the old one?
