Beyond Performance Appraisals: What Innovative HR Initiatives Can Boost Your Team's Impact?

shruthi.chowdary
What kind of new HR initiatives can be taken to enhance the presence of HR in the company apart from routine Performance Appraisals, etc.

---

This question highlights the importance of exploring innovative HR strategies beyond traditional practices. In today's dynamic workplace, HR departments are continuously evolving to meet the changing needs of organizations and employees. Implementing new initiatives such as flexible work arrangements, diversity and inclusion programs, employee wellness initiatives, and upskilling opportunities can significantly enhance the impact and visibility of HR within the company. By proactively engaging with employees and aligning HR strategies with business goals, organizations can demonstrate the value that HR brings beyond just administrative functions.

Hi Sruthi,

The following are a few; the actual list is very comprehensive and arises out of your creativity. Focus on employee welfare activities like training & development, systematic onboarding & induction, continuous talent development & assessment of employees, immediate reward and recognition, offsites, get-togethers, sports events, measures for attrition reduction, and open communication forums.

Hope this helps you.

Sathiya

Hi Shruthi,

If you want to showcase the presence of HR in your company, focus on employee welfare activities such as social gatherings, weekly events, celebrating anniversaries and birthdays of employees, immediate rewards and recognition, offsites, get-togethers, and sports events. Additionally, ensure there are open communication forums within the organization.

Thanks and regards,

Hello Shruti,

You can do a lot of things, training apart. Have an Employee Idea Club where you can ask employees to submit, discuss, and implement ideas to improve working conditions, company policies, or even product development, etc. This has to be done informally, but the minutes need to be recorded.

You can work out a team for cost-cutting in the firm/company. The main focus of this team can be to research and find out where and how the costs can be reduced without affecting the working and quality of the product of the company.

You can also organize a blood donation camp, where employees would donate blood for a social cause. You will receive a recognition certificate from the blood bank, and it is also beneficial for the social cause. All you have to spend is on refreshments.

If you want more, let me know.

Dear all,

My question is not the same but related. Could you guys guide me on the same please...?

I want to start annual appraisals within my Department (Highly important employees) in early January. Is there a template document I can use? I do not want this to be cumbersome, so only a one or max two-page form?

All suggestions and guidance are invited.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Paru

We have implemented an employee wellness program for the improved health of employees and their families in our company in association with a new concept portal - www.healthizen.com. You could try the same.

Hi Shruthi,

As rightly said by all our other friends, you need to put forward activities that will bring forward the interests and awareness of the employees. You can design a biodata kind of thing, but the only thing is you have to come up with interesting and funny questions. Ask questions which will bring forth the employees' hidden talent, and then on a weekly basis, you can put them up on the notice board or some place where it's noticeable, and probably do it separately for each department or floor.

Also, take a picture of theirs so that the other employees come to know something about each other. Ask for contributions from the employees to bring out their "latent talent." It could be anything like sketching, painting, a write-up, a poem, etc.

For appraisals, you need to have appraisal formats based on weighted average and marks distributed on JD, KRA, and of course on their targets on a quarterly basis. Actually, the appraisal depends on the kind of organizational needs and of course on volumes.

Of course, Jayendra, you are right. We have target goals to be achieved on a quarterly basis and have KPIs to which we want to achieve the best results. Could you help me by providing some good templates/documents I can use for annual appraisals starting next year?

One more thing that could be added to the list I previously provided is to build strong HRMS practices within the organization.

Hi Shruti,

Recently, we have started 'HR APKE DWAR' wherein HR officers move around the organization solving various employee-related issues.

Hi,

I am doing my internship in an IT consultancy services firm with an employee strength of around 1200. They intend to implement a health and wellness program for their employees, starting with a small program and gradually adding more activities to it.

This is my first time working on such a project. I would like to know what kind of analysis I should conduct before suggesting a health and wellness program to them. Additionally, I would appreciate your insights on how to proceed with this initiative.

Thanks,
Geet

Geet,

You might want to talk to Ashish at +91 9326577968. He heads an organization focused on corporate health and wellness, and they offer innovative web-based programs, including providing employees with a personal health management platform (check out www.healthizen.com). He might also be able to guide you in structuring your programs.

Hi Geet,

From your post, I understood that you are doing your internship in an IT company. May I know how you applied for it and how long your internship is?

Thanks,
Rafiq

Ok, I agree with all of you. But my advice is that we have to run before the time. All the mentioned suggestions are being followed by almost all industries. This is the time to think differently and act differently.

So, think for a moment and give birth to innovative ideas that can only be done by special people, and others can be indebted to them.
