Exploring Animation Careers: How This Booming Industry is Changing Student Choices

My experience with the Animation industry is something I would like to share with all of you because the Animation industry has introduced new ideas to students and opened up new career possibilities. After passing the 12th grade, students often feel confused about their future path. While traditionally, parents may have suggested pursuing fields like MCA, CA, BTEC, or MTEC, nowadays, the situation is evolving, and parents are also considering Animation as a viable option. Animation is like a dreamland with great career growth opportunities, providing newcomers with another avenue to expand their careers.

I am excited to introduce you to the Animation & Gaming industry, a sector that is currently booming similar to the initial burst we saw in the IT industry. The scope of Animation is vast, with many major players entering the market and rapidly expanding their presence. Educational institutions, colleges, and private institutes are offering diploma, degree, and certificate courses in Animation, which were previously hard to come by in India. However, there are still some aspects of education that students may need to pursue abroad.

In terms of the growth of the animation industry, an increasing number of companies are undertaking large projects to reduce production costs. For example, while the production cost of a 90-minute animation movie overseas is around 20 to 22 crore, in India, the production cost is reduced by 75%. This significant cost difference is a key factor contributing to the growth of the animation industry in India.

Hi Nitin,

You are very correct when you say it's a booming industry. Earlier, I had some doubts about it, but after reading an article from somebody in the industry, I am sure that at least something new is happening. Why am I so keen? Because my younger brother has joined MAAC (3D animation course), which he is set to complete this year.

Do you guys hire freshers as well?

I want to add something here. Hitherto, in 1998, animation was not considered as a future growth and important aspect of the IT, Entertainment, and Advertising industries. However, around 2001, there was a significant boom where people started to see it as a growth opportunity.

In 2003, according to NASSCOM, a global survey indicated that the animation industry was valued at $120 billion and was projected to reach around $800 billion by 2020. India's share at that time was only 5.8%, but it was anticipated that India would become a hub for animation activities, generating revenue of $80 billion in 2012 and employing 210,000 personnel in this industry.

In yesterday's newspaper (Economic Times), a company sponsored by Steven Spielberg awarded animation work to Telecolors, a division of the Thomson Group in Bangalore. This development indicates that India may become a leader in providing animation services to the required fields in the future.
