Hey, I found one reason which makes employees hate HR. In my experiences with my friends, including those who are HR and those who are not in HR, all are found to overstay in the office. When I ask them, "Dear, can't you do your work on time?" they say they always have more work than they can do. The same is the case with the HRs as well. I have spoken with HR and found that they themselves stay after office hours. When I ask them why they can't manage their job on time, they also can't give a proper answer.

So how can HR do proper manpower mapping, and why do HR staff stay after office hours almost daily? If this is the case with HR, what can they do for the organization? Here, HR itself is in need of proper time management. Then comes the issue of judging employees. Hence, employees hate HR, as HR staff themselves are not perfect but still expect employees to be perfect.

HR people are always unbiased and handle situations very diplomatically without hurting anybody's feelings, bringing the desired results to the management. They can't be friends with anybody since their job nature is defined, and confidential issues can't be revealed to others as is done in other departments (for the interest of the organization).

Regarding late sitting and working, it is not acceptable, as HR personnel typically do not work very late but are available around the clock to help employees and the organization.

Your observation may be an exceptional case and may not be applicable to all industries.

I very well agree with you. There are people who stay back after office hours and call themselves busy. However, the fact is that they don't have time management skills and finally end up staying back at the office due to incomplete work.

HR should always set an example or lead by example. In your situation, looking from the outside without knowing the actual workload, we may not be able to come to a conclusion. In small and mid-sized organizations, HR will look into admin, personal matters of senior staff, tax, legal, travel arrangements, etc. Hence, their workload may be high. However, how the load should be balanced is in the hands of their department head.

Ravi, I think you posted the following, which itself has the answer to why people hate HR. In my experience, I found HR is hated by many because HR is forced to send or frame policies that hurt employees or restrict their freedom, or when good support is not given by them to employees.

I want to thank Ravi for initiating this topic for discussion. In my earlier post, I tried to convey the same message. Please click <link no longer exists - removed>.

There are people saying that they hate HR, but they forget the fact that they are here in the organization due to HR. Their rights have been safeguarded by a set of HR policies and procedures, which are in accordance with local labor laws and generally accepted principles. They receive increments and promotions based on performance appraisals conducted by HR, and even when they leave, they receive their End of Service Benefits. If we do not take care of them, then who will? Yet, they still harbor animosity towards us.

In fact, human beings are lazy and unsatisfied animals. They often only think of their own individual benefits. As HR professionals, we must be very mindful of organizational development. Therefore, when the time comes, we sometimes have to take strict actions against employees. Most of the time, this is due to the ignorance of the employee or the misbehavior of another employee.

I wonder why we are the ones solely blamed when their managers request us to take action against them due to their failures or problematic attitudes. No organization wants to take the risk of recruiting a new person by terminating a good performer.
