How Can I Merge Two UANs for EPF and Transfer My Pension and Service History?

Raj Kumar Chauhan
Dear Sir, I am writing to address an issue concerning my Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account. I currently have two Universal Account Numbers (UANs) assigned during my term of employment:

- UAN A, which is linked to my previous employer (only the PF amount has already been withdrawn)
- UAN B, which is presently used by my current employer for EPF contributions.

Currently, my pension amount remains under UAN A, while my current employer is contributing to UAN B. Moreover, I am unable to access the passbook for UAN A through the EPFO portal. Please confirm what needs to be done.

To merge two Universal Account Numbers (UANs) and transfer your pension amount and service history, follow these steps:

1. Contact your current employer's HR department and request them to initiate the UAN merging process with the EPFO (Employee Provident Fund Organization).
2. Provide all necessary details of both UAN A and UAN B to your current employer for verification and consolidation.
3. Your current employer will submit a joint request to the EPFO for merging the UANs and transferring the pension amount and service history.
4. Once the EPFO processes the request, they will consolidate your EPF accounts under a single UAN, which will reflect your combined service history and pension amount.
5. After the consolidation, you should be able to access the passbook for your EPF account through the EPFO portal using the new single UAN.
6. Ensure to regularly check your updated passbook to verify the correctness of the merged accounts and the transferred pension amount.

By following these steps and coordinating with your current employer and the EPFO, you can successfully merge your UANs and consolidate your EPF accounts.

Merging Different UANs for EPF Accounts

The HR manager cannot merge an employee's different UANs. This process must be initiated by the employee concerned. To merge the previous account with the one currently in use, log in to the member portal using the present UAN and its password. Then, navigate to "online services" and select "one member one PF" to transfer the amount and service by entering the old UAN in the provided space. Please remember that you cannot merge the accounts if there is any discrepancy in the captured data.

Note: You should not have created a second UAN. Instead, you should have continued with the same UAN generated earlier when you joined this new company.
