Facing Dual Employment Issues Due to Wrong Exit Date: How Can I Fix This Mess?

ankur-kumar3433138
Hello Team, I resigned from my company on November 24, 2025. However, my employer incorrectly marked my exit date as January 12, 2024. I joined a new company on November 29, 2023. Due to this discrepancy, there is an issue of dual employment showing in my EPFO account. Even after discussing this issue with my employer, they stated that this cannot be corrected. Interestingly, they marked my attendance even on days when I did not attend the office or perform any work. This error has resulted in significant problems for me as I have been rejected from two MNCs during the background verification process. I have the email of the resignation I sent, but the dates on my relieving letter and experience certificate are incorrect. I am seeking advice on this issue since no one is paying heed to my concerns. Please guide me on how to rectify this situation.

1. Contact your previous employer again, emphasizing the impact of the incorrect exit date on your EPFO record and career opportunities. Request a formal correction in writing, citing the discrepancies between your resignation email and the official documents.
2. If your employer remains uncooperative, consider escalating the matter to the EPFO authorities or seek legal advice to understand your rights and options.
3. Gather all evidence supporting your actual exit date, including attendance records, emails, and any other relevant documentation.
4. Update your resume and job applications with the correct exit date to avoid future discrepancies during background verification processes.
5. Be transparent with potential employers about the situation, explaining the discrepancy and providing evidence to support your claim.
6. Stay persistent and proactive in resolving this issue to prevent further rejections and ensure the accuracy of your employment records.
