Navigating Job Transitions: Should I Mention My Past Fake Experience or a Closed Company?

Hello, During my early career, I claimed to have 4 years of fake experience, and I'm 42 years old now. Currently, I have accumulated over 10 years of genuine experience working with the same company.

Transitioning to a New Organization

I am now seeking to transition to a new organization. Would my falsely claimed 4 years of experience still be relevant for background checks if I continue to present it as part of my work history? Over the course of my 10 years, I have changed companies three times. Is it acceptable to inform prospective employers that my previous company closed down four years ago?

Please advise me on these matters.

Consider Removing Fake Experience from Your Profile

Is there a reason you want to retain that 4-year fake experience in your profile? Removing it can allow you to comfortably present yourself as a 6-year experienced professional.

Simply put, you will never be able to live comfortably with a lie, as the fear of it being revealed will be a constant unease. Drop the fake experience and keep your mind at rest and your career prospects active.

As suggested by members, do not include the fake 4 years of experience. It may come back to haunt you in the future.

In interviews, they mostly assess how you would fit into their requirements. A decision is made based on your current position and the responsibilities you have held.

By a slim chance, if you are applying based on what you learned in the initial years—which you referred to as fake—it could spell trouble. For what it's worth, gain a good understanding of what you have labeled as fake experience.
