Hi Taksheel,

Medical reimbursements are normally a component in the CTC structure. The government provides tax benefits for the expenses made towards medical treatments and medicines for self and dependents. Original bills have to be submitted by the end of the year to avail this tax benefit. The maximum amount exempted is Rs. 15,000 per year.

Hope this clarifies.

Dear Sender,

Medical reimbursement is part of CTC. It is Rs. 15,000 per annum or Rs. 1,250 per month. Also, the reimbursement of medical expenses will vary from organization to organization. Some organizations will reimburse you for the medical expenses incurred for yourself, spouse, and dependent children for a fixed amount, having a tie-up with insurance companies (for domiciliary as well as hospitalization treatment) where ESI is not applicable.

The procedure for claiming medical reimbursement will vary from organization to organization.

Dear Kumar,

Medical reimbursement Rs.1250/- per month, what you have mentioned is absolutely right. The second one that you have mentioned is referred to as mediclaim, which is given as a benefit to the employees. Please do correct me if I am wrong.

Dear Dhaksheel,

Medical reimbursement (domiciliary and hospitalization) procedures will vary from organization to organization depending on the tie-up they have with the insurance company. Certain companies will pay Rs. 15,000 per annum or Rs. 1,250 per month as medical allowance, which covers the medical expenses for employees and their families. For hospitalization, depending on the tie-up, the process involves filling out a medical claim form, attaching all original medical bills, reports, x-ray reports, hospital discharge summary, admit card, doctor's prescription, etc.

Everyone is saying that the Medical reimbursement is Rs.1250/- per month (annually up to Rs.15,000). So, I have a doubt here.

If someone gets a job in the month of October, will they benefit for that financial year up to Rs.7500 or Rs.15,000?
