Wrong Joining date by previous employee - What can be done in this scenario to prevent BGV failure even in future cases?

Hi, I recently joined a new organization where background verification (BGV) is taking place, and they asked for my service history. My previous employer, to save money even after multiple requests, did not deduct Provident Fund (PF). Recently, they increased the size of the organization to 120+ employees and started deducting PF. The issue is they mentioned my joining date as the 1st of September instead of the 1st of January, which is the actual joining date. I already had a PF account before joining my previous organization. I have a good relationship with the previous manager.

What can be done in this scenario to prevent BGV failure even in future cases?

Greetings. Even though your joining letter mentions September 1st, your actual payslip would have started from January 30th. So, there is nothing to worry about if you can produce the salary slips and the bank statement where your salary is credited. These will be additional supporting documents to clarify your background verification at any point in time.

Furthermore, you can ask your old company to provide you with a work experience letter that will mention the actual date of joining and the date of departure. This will also be an additional document. Hope you are clear now.

I have a relieving letter with the correct date of exit and date of joining. I have an actual bank statement showing correct salary credits throughout, and I also have payslips. However, the only thing that concerns me is if my current employer asks why my PF service history is incorrect (I am not an excluded employee as my first job created PF, but my base salary was above 15k). Is there any legal proof I can obtain from my last employer to validate my PF service history (providing assurance for any background verification even 10 years down the line)? Additionally, what reason should I give to my future employers if they ask the same question?

If your company was not under PF earlier and started it during your employment, obviously your PF history will not be there for the period when they were not covered under PF. You need to explain that to the BGV team or to HR in advance as you know there will be an issue with it.
