Hi, the probationary period and its removal are not influenced by the type of industry. Instead, they are governed solely by the terms and conditions specified in the appointment order.

Probation Extension in Government Appointments

A typical government appointment order doesn't contain a clause regarding how many times the probation can be extended. However, a clause will state, "You will be on probation for a period of one or two years from the date of your joining. If your performance during this period is not satisfactory, the period may be extended at the discretion of the competent authority. After the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, you may be regularized in the substantive post of [position] as temporary until permanency or until your confirmation in the post."

The number of possible extensions is not specified in the offer or appointment order. It depends on the policy and the discretion of the appointing authority whether the individual will be terminated if found unsatisfactory even after one or two extensions. The decision is influenced by the practices followed in the establishments.
