Navigating Job Termination: Can a Service Letter Alone Satisfy Future Employers?

I worked at a company and was terminated for two reasons: I presented a fake counteroffer for a higher salary, and after joining, I gave money to the person who interviewed me. These points were mentioned in the termination letter. After a year, I approached them for an experience and relieving letter, but they only provided a service letter, stating they cannot issue a relieving letter due to my termination.

My questions are:

1) Is there a way to obtain an experience and relieving letter?
2) Is a service letter sufficient for the next company? Will the new company accept it without an experience and relieving letter?
3) During background verification, will another company know the reason for my termination? Will there be any negative mark from the company where I was terminated?

Requesting a Service Certificate After Misconduct

If you were charged with serious misconduct, how can you ask for a service certificate? If the company issued a service certificate to you, it shows the immaturity of the person heading the Personnel/HR Department. If you were given a termination letter, that would be sufficient to relieve you from service. In other words, the termination letter itself is your relieving order. In the service letter, they would have written the date of joining and the designation. However, it should also contain the reason for your leaving or relieving from service, and that should be nothing other than "dismissed for misconduct." What is the use of that certificate? It's just a piece of paper. It will not make your career but only spoil it.

Understanding Service and Experience Letters

The service letter and experience letter are one and the same. If the company has given you a service letter, then what is the issue? If you want a relieving letter, you just produce the termination order, which itself is the order relieving you from your service.

Implications of Background Verification

If a prospective employer offers you employment and prefers a background verification, then naturally, the employer who dismissed you from service will disclose the reason for termination in detail. Even if your service certificate does not mention the reason for termination, the past employer can provide the real reason when a verification comes.

You should have thought of all these things before you committed the crime. Yes, for me, it is a crime.

Whatever happened has happened; you can't go back and correct it. Think of the future. If you plan to offer this service to your future prospects, undoubtedly, they will inquire about your past, and you cannot lie during the interview. There is no need to go as far as background verification. Your fate may be sealed even at the screening stage just by examining your CV. The mere mention of 'termination' is enough to draw a conclusion.

Therefore, set this incident aside, move past it, and forget this chapter of your journey/career. It's advisable to explore alternative ways to present a favorable picture of how you utilized this time convincingly, even if it may be considered unethical. By enhancing your skills and possibly your qualifications, you can make yourself competitive for job opportunities and increase your prospects in the job market.
