Sir, I am a 65-year-old retired railway employee, and a company wants to hire me. However, I do not want my pension to be reduced. What provisions are there for this situation?

EPF and ESI Coverage Based on Salary

If your salary per month is above Rs 15,000, then you will not be covered by EPF. However, you will be covered by ESI. At the same time, if your agreed salary is more than Rs 21,000, then you will be excluded from ESI as well. If your salary is less than Rs 15,000, you will have to be covered by EPF. The fact that you are in receipt of a pension from the Railways will not be considered for coverage of EPF. The only thing is that the employer will not be contributing to the Pension Fund of the EPF, but they will contribute the same 12% fully to your PF account along with your contribution of 12%.

Impact of Private Employment on Railway Pension

Receiving a salary from a private establishment will not in any way reduce your pension from the Railways. Whatever you are receiving from the Railways is a right conferred to you following your service in the Railways. It is actually a continuation of your service. It will not be stopped or reduced because of the receipt of any other social security.
