SANTOSHGUPTA1971
If a contractual laborer dies due to sickness after joining and performing his duties for one week, will he be eligible for benefits under EPF?

Hi, was the contract staff registered under PF by the contractor or principal employer?

He will receive benefits as he was working. However, there will hardly be any PF amount accumulated in one week. Nonetheless, he will be eligible for EDLI claims, and his family will be eligible as well.

A new employee who dies before making an Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) contribution is not eligible for benefits from EPFO.

Benefits available to dependents of a deceased EPF member

Pension: The pension is automatically paid to the deceased member's spouse.

Children: Children of the deceased member are eligible for the pension until they turn 25 years old, with two children eligible at a time.

Disabled children: Any disabled child in the family is eligible for a disabled pension for life.

Hi, a few inputs:

1) EPF contributions should be processed for this employee, and benefits eligibility should be based on the conditions as per the Act for the nominee (as declared by the employee or legal heirs).

2) If ESI is applicable, this employee may apply for claims as per the ESI Act.

Thank you.
